What you're looking at when you sign in
Summary
When you sign in to Safe Pathways, you land on your Overview page. Every task your church needs you to complete, training, policy sign-off, references, and screening items, is tracked from here. The left-side menu has four pages: Overview, Training, My requirements, and My Account. This article walks through each one.

What you'll need
Before you begin, make sure you have:
- A volunteer account in Safe Pathways
- Your sign-in details (see Logging in for the first time)
Before you start
Overview is your landing page and it is read-only, it shows where you stand and links you to whatever needs doing. The other three pages are where the work happens: Training holds your pathways and certificates, My requirements holds your references and policies, and My Account holds your personal details.
Steps to find your way around
1. Overview: your status at a glance
Your authorization, at the top, tells you whether your church considers you fully cleared to serve, for example “You are not yet an Authorized Adult.” Once everything is in order it updates automatically, naming the areas you are authorized to serve in.
Your safeguarding checklist lists each step: Training, References, Church policies, Police Check, and Church participation. Completed rows are marked complete, and each outstanding row links to the page where you finish it. Items your church handles for you, like the Police Check, are marked “Your church arranges this for you.”, there is nothing for you to do on those.
2. Training: your pathways and certificates
Your church assigns you one or more pathways based on your volunteer role, for example an intro pathway everyone completes, plus a role-specific pathway like Children or Youth. Each pathway appears as a card showing:
- A due date while training is open, and the period it stays active once you've finished
- Your status: Not Started, In Progress, Completed, Overdue (past the due date and unfinished), Expired, or Renew
- An action button: Start Here to begin, or Continue to pick up where you left off
Certificates for completed pathways live in the Certificates section of this page. See Viewing or downloading your certificate.
How long does it take? Most pathways take under 20 minutes. The intro pathway, four short videos and a quiz, takes about 10 minutes.
3. My requirements: references, policies, and anything extra
References: your church needs two references as part of screening. Enter the name and contact details for each one here. If you provide an email address, Safe Pathways automatically sends a reference request; if you provide a phone number, your church staff will follow up directly.
Church policies: your church's safeguarding policy appears here. Open the policy to read it, then sign; the sign option unlocks after you have opened the policy. Once signed, the card confirms your acknowledgement is complete.
Additional requirements: if your church or province tracks extra items, they appear here too.
4. My Account
Your contact details, password, and language (English or Français) live on the My Account page.
What happens next
As you complete each item, your checklist updates on its own, and once everything is in order your Authorized Adult status switches on automatically. Check Overview whenever you want to know where you stand.
Frequently asked questions
Why is my Overview empty?
Your church may not have assigned pathways or uploaded policies yet. Check back in a day or two, or ask your church administrator.
I finished my training but I'm still not cleared. What's missing?
Look at Your safeguarding checklist on Overview. Rows marked “Your church arranges this for you.” are handled by your church staff, not by you.
Where did “Your church staff tasks” go?
That section from the old volunteer home page is now part of Your safeguarding checklist on Overview. The church-handled rows are the same items.
Can I complete everything on my phone?
Yes. Safe Pathways works in any modern browser. No app download required.
Notes
- Overview is your landing page: a read-only status summary and Your safeguarding checklist.
- Your pathways and certificates live on the Training page; your references and policies live on My requirements.
- A policy's sign option unlocks only after you open the policy.
- Past-due, unfinished training shows the amber Overdue status; once everything is complete, your Authorized Adult status switches on automatically.
